Siula Grande rises 6344m in the Cordillera Huayhuash range in the Peruvian Andes.

 

Daily life beneath the 6000m spires is unreal, a massive amphitheater in the middle of nowhere that is constantly shedding ice and rock, with whole sections of the glacier calving off. “On down days you sit around on green grass, wearing sandals, eating trout caught out of the lake a hundred feet away, reading books, and watching the mountain perform this dance of raw power,”. “The sound alone is incredible.”

 

On ascent days you will experence fear, excitement, exhaustion, terror, elation, and an overwhelming sense of visual beauty. That all  will boil down to one very basic conclusion: the feeling of being alive.
