As mentionned in the title, laguna Colorada might be the most impressive lagoon to be found on the whole Altiplano. This for several reasons. The flora and fauna found at this high elevation (4400m aprox), among which the 3 species of flamingos, andean geese, ducks, andean avocet, and the lamas. The red colour given by several micro-organism, changing throughout the day. The Borax mineral accumulation looking like Icebergs.

 

When visiting this amazing place there will be one Volcano getting your attention. Volcan pabellon. Yet it is seldomely climbed, and you won't find a trail to reach its summit. However we recommend it as it is a summit on the go ! The road leading to the geyser field "sol de mañana", the thermal waters "Polques", laguna verde and Licancabur gets really near the Volcano and can "help" you up to 4900m.
