Tarapaca is the highest mountain near Putre. It can be seen from most places within the village of Putre. A short drive early in the morning will bring you to the base of the mountain. You will come across a lot of different colours due to its volcanic origins. Once in the extinct crater you will start the actual climb to the summit. The higher of its two main summits reaches 5900m and the views are impressive. 

 

Depending on the time of the year you will have to wear crampons to cross the frozen snow fields at higher altitude.
